Welcome Back, Congress
The Senate has returned to Washington following the week-long Thanksgiving holiday recess. The House will return tomorrow.
Vote-O-Rama Watch
The Senate is expected to vote on its version of the “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” on Thursday, setting up a potential “vote-o-rama.” As a reminder, a vote-o-rama is a term specific to the Senate where Senators debate a series of individual amendments for 10 minutes each, and then vote on the amendments consecutively. This process can last into the early morning hours of the following day. The Senate last held a vote-o-rama in October during debate of the FY 2018 Budget Resolution.
Legislation
H.R. 4380, “Better Jobs for Veterans Act of 2017,” introduced by Representative Ron Kind (D-WI). This bill permanently extends the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP), helps states to streamline credentialing to recognizing veterans’ military training, makes permanent the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) and extends it to members of the Ready Reserve and National Guard, and provides a tax credit for military spouses.
Hearings
Tomorrow @ 2:30 p.m.: Senate Budget Committee hearing – “To Consider FY 2018 Reconciliation Legislation.” 264 Dirksen Senate Office Building.
