AEO Statement of Passage of Bipartisan Budget Deal

December 19, 2013 – The Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) was pleased to see the Senate pass the budget agreement hammered out by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI) last night with bipartisan support.  The vote, 64-yeas to 36-nays, came nearly a week after the House passed the same bill with overwhelming support from both parties.

On behalf of our more than 450 members and partner network, we are relieved that this deal will restore order to the appropriations process and remove the threat of automatic spending cuts for the next two years.

“This deal removes the threat of sequestration for two years, which had the potential to devastate funding for business assistance programs that microbusinesses depend on, and gives them certainty about the future,” said Connie Evans, President and CEO.

Once signed by the President, the agreement will allow Congressional Appropriators to allocate $1.012 trillion to federal agencies for FY2014 funding.  Congressional Appropriators must act before January 15, 2014, when current government spending runs out.

AEO has been hard at work advocating on behalf of our members and the counseling and lending programs that support our nation’s entrepreneurs.  But it is critical that they hear from our members about the importance of funding for these programs.

If you have not already contacted your elected officials, please Take Action and urge them to support critical FY2014 funding for business assistance programs.

AEO will continue to call on the Congress and the Administration to work together and pursue policies that support our nation’s microbusinesses.
