Last week the SBA published final rules on the Microloan Program finalizing four important changes. As you may recall from last year, these changes were initially proposed by SBA in May 2014. The changes are improvements AEO has requested to strengthen the program and we pleased to see them put in place. On the heels of AEO’s 2015 Leadership Forum, a top priority for AEO’s policy team is within our grasp. For years, AEO members have reported that restrictions on both lending and counseling services have hampered the ability to help entrepreneurs. With the introduction of bipartisan legislation to improve the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Microloan Program, AEO can mark an important victory in efforts to remedy the situation.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) announced today a national listening tour to solicit public opinion regarding a new strategic framework for the CDFI Fund. Intended to foster discussion and engagement among local community development leaders and practitioners, the listening tour will be co-hosted by CDFI Fund Director Annie Donovan alongside the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City-Denver Branch, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
