Our friends at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond recently held a conference on microbusiness lending. AEO was a sponsor and I had an opportunity to attend. The conference, “Microbusiness Lending: A Landscape for the New Economy,” convened an array of actors to discuss hot topics in microbusiness development.
Attendees were treated to an opening keynote presentation by Michael Shuman, author of Local Dollars and Local Sense.” Shuman demystified the choices for local investment strategies including community ownership and direct public offerings.

It’s All About the Money: FY13 Appropriations and FY14 Budgets Explained
Late last week, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the six-month Continuing Resolution(CR) that had been debated in Congress for nearly a month. When the President signs the bill into law this week, FY2013 appropriations work will be completed and will lock in spending through the end of the fiscal year, avoiding a government shutdown on March 27 when current funding had been scheduled to run out.
